The Sleeping Giant

DM Summary

It’s mid-morning and the sun is shining brightly. The haze of the previous day has been burned off.

After having spent the previous night in a raucous singing (and drinking) competition, Ossian, Ashildr, and Triactis are sleeping in.

Jig (and Pili Pala’s sprite friend Billykin Boomwacket) had already gone off to take the ox cart and supplies around to both Lionshield Coster and Barthen’s Provisions and were back having a late breakfast.

They are joined by Sherick, Sildar (who looks much better now), and Arianwen.

Jig tells the others about how she had to take care of a Redbrand Ruffian while collecting the pay from Elmar Barthen at Barthen's Provisions. As they are eating and chatting, a crying Pip Stonehill (the innkeeper's son) and they soon learn that he's distraught because one of his friends had been taken by the Redbrands (along with his mother and sister, on top of his father being presumed dead).

Jig, Arianwen, and Sherick travel around Phandalin and visit Halia Thornton at the Phandalin Miner's Exchange (where she offers 100 gold if they take care of the leader of the Redbrands, Glasstaff -- Jig is able to talk her up to 100 gold, but only if they also take care of any Redbrands at the Sleeping Giant), the Alderleaf Farm (where they meet Qelline Alderleaf, halfling farmer, and she tells them exactly where to find the Ruins of Thundertree and a bit of the history of it, as well as that Reidoth the Druid is very knowledgeable about the entire area...and Carp Alderleaf, her son, tells them about a tunnel he found in the woods that leads underneath Tresendar Manor), and Townmaster's Hall (where they meet Harbin Wester, the banker who is currently townmaster and rather rub him the wrong way, but he still offers them 100 gold to take care of the orcs at Wyvern Tor).

Then they stop by the Sleeping Giant to see about the Redbrands. Four on the porch are ready to attack, but Sherick manages to not only charm them, but bring them inside where they get two of the thugs totally sloshed. She interrogates one of the half-drunk ones, but ultimately they wind up killing the lot (made easier by how inebriated they are). Luckily for them, Grista (the owner of the Sleeping Giant) was in the back room and amazingly (!) didn't hear any of the commotion and, when she did come out, Jig quickly thought to offer her the contents of the Redbrand's pockets. Between the gold and the rogue's glib tongue, Grista let them go so long as they took care of the bodies.

Jig kept the red capes, however, and even went back to Barthen's to get the cape of the one she had killed earlier. Murderhobos for the win!

191 xp each to Sherick, Jig, and Arianwen for dealing with the Redbrand Ruffians at The Sleeping Giant Taproom and talking to a number of local towsnfolk (Qelline and Carp Alderleaf, Harbin Wester, Halia Thornton) and talking Grista into not attacking after trashing her pub.
