NPCs

As the Foresters Guild meets significant NPCs (Non-player Characters), they will be added here by location (along with anything that has been discovered about them thus far).

Phandalin

The town consists of forty or fifty simple log buildings, some built on old fieldstone foundations. More old ruins-crumbling stone walls covered in ivy and briars-surround the newer houses and shops, showing how this must have been a much larger town in centuries past. Most of the newer buildings are set on the sides of the cart track, which widens into a muddy main street of sorts as it climbs toward a ruined manor house on a hillside at the east side of town.

Gundren Rockseeker
, a dwarf patron who had stopped over at the Wyrmspine Tavern while waiting on some supplies, seems to be a solid and trustworthy individual. He has asked you to bring a wagonload of provisions to the rough-and-tumble settlement of Phandalin, a couple of days' travel southeast of the city. Gundren was clearly excited and more than a little secretive about his reasons for the trip but he promised he'd pay you ten gold pieces each for escorting his supplies safely to Barthen's Provisions, a trading post in Phandalin. He then set out ahead of you on horse, along with a warrior escort named Sildar Hallwinter, claiming he needed to arrive early to "take care of business." You have since discovered that Gundren was waylaid by goblins and taken to Cragmaw Castle.

Sildar Hallwinter is a retired soldier and sellsword who hails from the city of Neverwinter. He is a loyal member of the Lords' Alliance, a political organization that unites the various free cities and towns of the North. A kind man, he seems to be investigating something on his own and is accompanying Gundren as he also needs to go to Phandalin. In the meantime, he provides security for Gundren on his trip. After rescuing Sildar from Cragmaw Hideout and taking him to Phandalin, you learn he has a mission of his own: finding the missing wizard Iarno Albrek.

Toblen Stonehill is the owner of Stonehill Inn. A short, friendly human male, Toblen was happy to welcome the Foresters to his Inn and even gave them a deal in exchange for performances from the Bard Triactis.

Trilena Stonehill is Toblen's wife. She helps run the kitchen and keep an eye on things.

Pip Stonehill is Toblen's son. You've seen him running around the Inn. Normally a very happy child, he's very sad as his friend Nars Dendrar was recently captured by the Redbrands (as well as his mother Mirna and sister Nilsa).

Elsa the barmaid works for Toblin at the Stonehill Inn. She seems in awe of Sherick, as she's never seen an Aasimar before.

Narth is an old farmer and frequents the Stonehill Inn. He seems very chatty and friendly and not at all afraid of half-orcs. He seems to know a lot about the goings on around Phandalin.

Freda, the local weaver, is another regular at Stonehill Inn as she likes the pies (and hates to cook). She seemed amenable to taking on any crafting work for Jig and is full of gossip.

Linene Graywind is the master of the Lionshield Coster outpost in Phandalin. Triactis knows of her by name, but not sight, as he had heard rumours of missing shipments the last time he was in Phandalin. Appreciative that her goods were returned to her, she looks highly upon the group.

Daran Eldermath is a retired adventurer turned orchard owner, according to Elsa.

Halia Thornton runs the Phandalin Miner's Exchange and, according to Freda, is the only one in town the Redbrands seem to steer clear of. She offered 100 gp to the Foresters to eliminate Glasstaff, the Redbrand Leader, but upped it to 200 gp after Jig convinced her -- so long as the players also took care of any Redbrands over at the Sleeping Giant.

Qelline Alderleaf is a local farmer and, according to Narth, is a busy body who knows a lot of things. She tells the Foresters exactly how to get to Thundertree to find Reidoth the Druid and that he is very knowledgeable about every location in the area.

Carp Alderleaf is Qelline's son and wants to be an adventurer. He tells the Foresters about a tunnel he found that he thinks goes to the Redbrand hideout and shows them the entrance to the tunnel.

Sister Garaele runs the local Shrine of Luck, according to Narth.

Harbin Wester is the current Townmaster of Phandalin. A rotund blustery man with a heightened sense of self importance, he is also the town's banker. He was rather insulted by Jig's suggestion that he is in cahoots with someone and insists that the Redbrands "aren't that big a problem anyway." He has offered 100 gp to anyone who can take care of the orc problem around Wyvern Tor.

The Ruins of Thundertree

Reidoth the Druid is the name of a druid that lives in the Ruins of Thundertree. Unwin told Ossian that a druid from Phandalin might have knowledge of his family's missing sword. Qelline says he is very knowledgeable about the area.

Cragmaw Castle

You now know the location of Cragmaw Castle (by scaring it out of Yeemik the Goblin) where King Grol of the local goblin clan resides and has apparently taken Gundren Rockseeker.

The Wyrmspine Tavern, near Neverwinter

Located on the outskirts of Neverwinter, the Wyrmspine Tavern is a sprawling inn with many rooms for rent. You can’t help but notice the massive dragon skeleton that hangs menacingly over the bar. The bar underneath the dragon’s bones contains a large collection of interesting looking bottles, many infused with herbs or other plants. A bald bartender with scars on her – or his, you aren’t entirely sure – head is behind the bar, wiping glasses. Anyone entering for the first time is greeted by an elf of advanced years, dressed finely but with some delicate scarring on his hands and arms, indicating that he once might have been an adventurous sort. The tavern is owned and run by Unwin Inkwell. If he’s feeling in a festive mood, he lights up the dragon’s skeletal eye sockets with faerie fire, where they often glow into the night.

Trimble the Bartender What is Trimble? Half-Elf? Elf? Human? Something else entirely? No one is really sure. The only thing certain is that all the drinks she makes are strong. And if you make her laugh...there might be something special in it for you. But the joke better be good.

Drink Effects discovered so far: Longstrider (6), Bless (7), Heroism (3), Comprehend Languages (5), Protection from Good and Evil (4), Drunk as a Skunk (or, now, possibly to be known as "Drunk as a Gnome") (8)

Unwin Inkwell
, a High Elf Archmage, is older than he can remember and has been proprietor of the Wyrmspine for longer than most of his guests have been alive. The Wyrm in question, in fact, was one he had a hand in slaying himself, though his fighting days are long behind him. That said, it would be a foolish adventurer indeed to challenge him, especially inside his own walls. Unwin spends most of his time buried in research or (his guilty pleasure) soppy romance novels.

Wylla Inkwell Granddaughter (or perhaps great grand-daughter) of Unwin Inkwell, High Elf Druid. She works at the tavern, though she periodically leaves on adventures of her own (that she never talks about). Used to being alone, Wylla has only recently learned that Bark, a tavern regular, has feelings for her. As she's always rather fancied him (he is a splendid example of a man, even if he is Half-Orc), she has a newfound warmth about her.

Amon is an average-sized human man with cold blue eyes and sandy hair. He wears a very simple brown homespun robe tied about with a piece of hemp. He often visits the Wyrmspine and can be found there nearly every afternoon at a table separate from all the rest in a darkened corner. Bark Shinbone is his only friend.

Bark Shinbone
is a splendid example of both a barbarian and a half-orc, he is an overly muscular regular at the Wyrmspine. He commonly wears a wolf-fur cape over his leather armor. He is a collector of weapons and usually keeps any he finds while adventuring and thus has an extensive collection. Bark has had a crush on Wylla for years and finally, with the help of Jig, he was able to put his feelings into words and share them with Wylla.
